Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a symptomatic condition, not a disease. The characteristic physical sign is increased intra ocular pressure (IOP). A sustained increase in IOP may be due to an increase in the formation of the aqueous humour, a difficulty in its exit or a raised pressure in the episcleral veins. Increase in IOP causes pathological changes in the optic disk and typical defects in the field of vision and eventually blindness.
